Women’s handball team, SCM Craiova, have registered a historic performance and have won the EGF Cup on Friday! SCM Craiova defeated Vipers Kristiansand 30-25 in the second round of the final, as in the away match the Norwegian team won 26-22, digisport.ro reports.
The Romanian team had a dramatic win, as goalkeeper Iulia Dumanska had two consecutive interventions in the last seconds of the match. Had it scored, Vipers would have won the trophy.
SCM Craiova dominated the match, but as the match approached the final the Norwegians got closer on the scoreboard.
Craiova led 3-0 in 4th minute, the score was 5-4 in the 7th minute. In the 14th minute Craiova led 10-6, then 11-9 to lead at halftime 19-12.
SCM Craiova led by 9 goals in the second half (24-15), but in the 50th minute the score was 28-23. The hosts lost possession 27 seconds from time and the guests missed two opportunities in the last seconds of the match.
This is SCM Craiova’s first European trophy and the first EHF Cup for a Romanian handball team. The cup was won when named IHF Cup by Chimistul Râmnicu Vâlcea (1984, 1989) and by Rapid Bucharest (1993). HC Zalău lost the EHF final in 2012.
