Arabist expert: Active IS cells in Bulgaria
There are active Islamic State cells in Bulgaria, Arabist expert Kirvak Tsonev told Bulgarian national TV on Monday, Novinite reports. According to the quoted source, the forceful assimilation of Bulgaria’s Turkish minority by changing their Turkish names to Bulgarian during 1985-1989 has pushed some Bulgarian Muslims to Islamism. The Arabist claims there are people fighting for Islamic State, who have been treated in Bulgarian hospitals. Some of them were in the country before engaging in combat and have later returned to Bulgaria. In Tsonev opinion, fights are getting tougher and tougher as IS forces are forcing Kurds into Turkey and for that reason, refugees will ultimately knock at Bulgarian border.
