Pakistani military confirms it shot down 2 Indian aircraft
Pakistan’s military said Wednesday that it had shot down two Indian aircraft that had entered Pakistani airspace and captured one of the pilots, in an escalation of hostilities just a day after Indian fighter jets crossed the disputed Kashmir region to launch an airstrike within Pakistan, New York Times reported.
“In response to PAF strikes this morning as released by MoFA, IAF crossed LOC. PAF shot down two Indian aircrafts inside Pakistani airspace. One of the aircraft fell inside AJ&K while other fell inside IOK. One Indian pilot arrested by troops on ground while two in the area“, Pakistan’s chief military spokesman, Maj. Gen. Asif Ghafoor, said on Twitter.
The embassy of Pakistan in Bucharest told a press release on Tuesday that “India flagrantly violated Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, when at 0254 hours (approx.), 6-8 Indian aircrafts entered Pakistan airspace.”
“Upon learning that Pakistan Air Force jets had been scrambled to intercept, the intruding aircrafts randomly released their ordnance and left Pakistani airspace. Indian ordnance landed in an uninhabited remote area and hence the loss of valuable human lives was averted,” the embassy further stated.
The Pakistani representation to Romania pointed out that “the Government of Pakistan strongly rejects the Indian false claims of targeting the so-called terrorist camp in the area of Balakot on 26 February 2019 and its fictitious claim of heavy casualties as a result thereof,” reiterating that following Pulwama incident, Pakistan had not role in it and claiming that “Indian aggression is a consequence of war mongering by Indian Government essentially motivated by its domestic electoral politics.”
“The events unfolding in the Indian Occupied Kashmir are completely indigenous. India needs to look inwards and cease its brutalities against the Kashmir Muslims. With the above attack by Indian Air Force, the regional stability and peace has been put at a serious risk. Pakistan had been consistently cautioning the world community regarding India’s aggressive designs and had urged them to play its role for the purposes of deescalating the above tense situation. The failure of international community to prevent outbreak of hostilities between two nuclear states will have far reaching consequences for regional and international peace and stability,” reads the embassy’s press release.
Pakistan calls upon the world community to strongly condemn this act of aggression by India and play its role in deescalating the tense situation. “The world community must also ask India to put an end to the human rights violations by the Indian Armed Forces in the Indian Occupied Kashmir as well as promote regional stability and peace. At its end, Pakistan continues to stand by its principled stance and we reiterate our support to the peaceful political struggle of people of Kashmir for their rights,” the press release concluded.
