Two killed, one arrested in Belgium anti-terror raid
Belgian security forces killed two terror suspects with links to Syria in the eastern city of Verviers on Thursday and arrested another. Authorities say they prevented a major and imminent attack against police buildings.
The raid came amid an international hunt for possible accomplices to attackers who killed 17 people in France last week before being shot dead by police.
Prosecutor Eric Van der Sypt said police had targeted a group returning from Syria who had been about to launch “large-scale” attacks. Suspects had opened fire on police with assault weapons, he said, as quoted by BBC.
