CNP revises upward the projection on GDP growth to 6.1 pc in 2018

Commission for Economic Forecasting (CNP) has revised upward the GDP growth projection to 6.1 percent this year, according to Winter Prognosis on medium term 2017 – 2021, after the institution estimated an economic growth of 5.5 percent for 2018 last autumn.

For the next three years, CNP maintained the GDP growth forecasts at 5.7 percent in 2019 and 2020, respectively to 5 percent in 2021.

Value in current prices of the GDP will rise to RON 924.2 billion this year, RON 995.4 billion in 2019, RON 1.072 billion in 2020 and RON 1.148 billion in 2021.

Final consumption is expected to increase by 6.3 percent this year, a forecast also revised upward from 5.8 percent in the autumn, amid the increase in household consumption by 6.6 percent. Over the next three years, the consumption growth will slow to 5.6 percent in 2019, 5.4 percent in 2020 and 4.9 percent in 2021.

On the other hand, gross fixed capital formation (investments) is expected to reach 7.9 percent this year, 8.4 percent in 2019, 8.6 percent in 2020 and 7.4 percent in 2021.

The European Commission forecasts for 2018 an advance of the Romanian economy of up to 4.4 percent, similar to that of the latest International Monetary Fund projections.
