Naspers to buy tocmai.ro

Norwegian group Schibsted Media Group will sell the company that owns Romanian classifieds website www.tocmai.ro to Naspers (South Africa), in a deal that also includes its Portuguese subsidiary, according to an announcement on the Nasdaq.

“Schibsted reached an agreement with Naspers to take over Hungary’s operations. Schibsted will sell operations in Romania and Portugal to Naspers,” reads the Norwegian company’s notice, which however doesn’t mention the value of the transaction.

Tocmai.ro website is owned by Sibmedia Interactive Sibiu, a company that is 95 percent overseen by Schibsted Classified Media.

The Norwegian group joined Sinmedia ownership in June 2011, when it took over 55 percent from Salcia Invest, Luxembourg. Concurrently, further capital increases brought Schibsted 95 percent ownership interest.

In Romania, Naspers controls Allegro Online Services Romania SRL, the company that manages the site www.olx.ro (former www.mercador.ro until June 2014).

Mercador.ro was launched in Romania in 2010.

Present in 107 countries and 42 languages, the platform OLX online (Online Exchange) was founded in 2006 by entrepreneurs Fabrice Grinda and Alec Oxenford.

Since 2010, OLX is part of the media group Naspers.
