George Maior on the summons: I received no official notice

The Romanian ambassador to the U.S. George Maior said on Tuesday while attending the Annual Meeting of the Romanian Diplomacy at Cotroceni Palace that he had received no official notice to be summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after his criticism on the letter sent by Rudolph Giuliani to some Romanian officials regarding the protocol in the judiciary system.

Maior added he doesn’t consider the MAE’s press release as an official invitation that compels him to give explanations at the Foreign Ministry.

In an intervention to Digi24, Maior has been asked to comment why his name is mentioned so often related to domestic policy scandals lately.

I don’t know, maybe because I am more interesting. Maybe there is a certain perception that I might sort of coordinate movements in Washington, new political movements, or influence certain political trends… There are fake things, as a matter of fact there is a recurring campaign of fake news against me, which presents scraped reviews that aim to project a certain image. I want to reject these things. I haven’t reacted so far because from my position of ambassador is not my concern what is being gossiped (…),” Maior says.

Romanian ambassador to the U.S., George Maior, has been summoned at the Romanian Foreign Ministry to give explanations following statements made on the topic of Rudolf Giuliani’s letter.

According to a press release issued by the Foreign Ministry (MAE), the Romanian ambassador in Washington presented a stance that was not approved within MAE or the Government and which doesn’t represent the ministry’s stance.

George Maior, said that Rudolph Giuliani is a sparkling and combative character, the “expression of lobby initiated by some forces” which want to defend persons in Romania who have criminal problems.
