President Basescu calls Romanians to go to polls

President Traian Basescu held a press conference on Friday evening at the Cotroceni Palace. “I call on all good faith Romanians to come to vote on Sunday and not to let their country be robbed by a group of demagogues who are defending the corrupted (…) I am calling my electors to come on Sunday to vote in order to give them a lesson. It is my request to all those who have ever had faith in me,” said the president.

He also called on the 3,5 million Romanians living abroad, saying: “They had a huge importance in the continuation of Romania’s modernization processes  back in 2009.”

President Basescu added that he felt the solidarity of the Romanians living abroad and that he specifically asks them to go to polls.

Regarding the polling stations in Diaspora, the chief of state criticized the new FM’s position, saying the Melescanu has adopted an unfair position just as his predecessor, trying to prove what it cannot be proved, namely that there can’t be organized other polling stations except for the ones from the first round of elections.

President Traian Basescu also said that it was clear that Govenment’s members as well as those of the Foreign Affairs Ministry are trying to obstruct the voting process of the Romanian citizens living abroad, noting that his hope by appointing Melescanu as FM was in vain.

In another trail of thoughts, the president asserted that he has information there are parties that have decided not to send their representatives in the polling stations for delaying the voting process.
