Special pensions and fiscal measures amendments postponed until autumn

The amendments to the law on special pensions, necessary after the decision of the Constitutional Court, as well as the package of fiscal measures will no longer be adopted this month, political sources told Digi24.ro. The reason, the officials from Bucharest must discuss with the European Commission before taking any decision. Although the leaders of the Coalition promised an extraordinary session of the Parliament in August, the schedule of discussions with the European Commission overturns their plans.

According to the quoted sources, the European Commission would have asked the officials in Bucharest not to hurry with the amendments to the law on special pensions without a discussion with Brussels, although the European money from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan depends on this law. The amendments to the special pensions law, declared partially unconstitutional, will be finalized in these days, to be sent to the European Commission, government sources say.

Later, on August 23-24, the Minister of Labor will go to Brussels for a discussion with European officials. One of the possible changes provides for an increase in the percentage by which special pensions could be taxed (originally set at 15%), but according to the CCR decision, the tax must apply to all service and military pensions.

The changes will be adopted in the parliamentary session starting in September.

At the same time, regarding the package of fiscal measures, the situation is similar. In the same period, at the end of August, the Minister of Finance Marcel Boloș will go to Brussels to present the emergency ordinances prepared by the government and the budget rectification, after which Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu will also have a discussion with the Commission about the budget deficit.

Only after these meetings will the package of fiscal measures be adopted by the Government. “They will probably apply from October,” government sources say, regarding when the measures that PNL and PSD are still discussing will come into force.
