Tennis: Simona Halep, one step away to surpass the record set by Ilie Nastase

Romanian tennis player, Simona Halep, is in the 39th week of being positioned first the WTA rankings and is one step away from surpassing the record set by tennis legend Ilie Nastase, of 40 weeks on the 1st position in the ATP rankings.

So, next week Halep will surpass next week Nastase’s record for Romania of topping the world tennis rankings, ziare.com informs.

Then, after Rogers Cup, Simona will most certainly go beyond the above mentioned record, the same source reads.

There’s only one uncertainty at the moment, but rather impossible. In order to lose the fist position in the WTA rankings, Simona Halep should be eliminated in the first round of the tournament in Canada and Caroline Wozniaki to win the tournaments in Washington and Montreal.

This is rather an unrealistic scenario, to it is most probable that Simona Halep will be, as of August 13, the Romanian tennis player with most weeks at the top of world rankings.

In women tennis history, Halep is now on the 11th position in the rankings of tennis players who occupied the first position for the longest time.
