US Open: Monica Niculescu and Ana Bogdan through to the second round

Romanian tennis player Monica Niculescu, 58^th WTA, defeated Barbara Strycova (18^th seeded) 6-3, 6-7, 6-1 on Monday to reach the second round of the US Open. In the next round she will play against another Romanian, Ana Bogdan.

Ana Bogdan defeated after a remarkable comeback another Romanian player, Sorana Carstea 0-6, 7-5, 6-2.

Irina Begu, 23^rd WTA, was defeated in straight sets 6-0, 6-4 by Lesia Tsurenko (99^th WTA) in the first round.

Simona Halep, 6^th WTA, will play against Kirsten Flipkens (Belgium, 56^th WTA) on Tuesday, 18.00h Bucharest time on Arthur Ashe Stadium.
