Romanian banks’ NPL ratio fell to 9.04 pc in May

The share of non-performing loans (NPLs) in Romania’s banking system has fallen by 0.22 percent, to 9.04 percent in May month-on-month, National Bank of Romania (BNR) data reveal.

In year-on-year comparison, this decreased by 3.36 percentage points.

The number of natural persons registered to the credit bureau with arrears exceeding 30 days to banks and to NFIs increased by 0.65 percent in May to 673,091, as compared to April, central bank informs.

Regarding the amount of arrears, they were of over RON 8.08 billion, of which RON 3.14 billion in local currency, RON 3.29 billion equivalent in EUR. Depending on the delay, the highest value corresponds to the term for over 90 days with RON 4.57 billion.

As regards late payments category, the highest value of over RON 4.5 billion is for >90 days overdue NPLs

The total amount of outstanding loans in local currency of the population and companies, registered in May 2017, amounts to RON 6.09 billion, up by 0.06 percent compared to the amount reported in April 2017, and debts in foreign currency loans were down by 3.7 percent to RON 6.868 billion (equivalent), according to the central bank report.

Total RON-denominated loans reached RON 133 billion in May (1.42 percent more than in the previous month), while foreign currency loans totaled 94.222 billion RON equivalent in May 2017 (0.03 percent less than in April).
