McDonald’s and KFC sales per restaurant in Romania, twice the world average

A McDonald’s restaurant in Romania sells an average of EUR 1.62 million per year, twice the global average, according to zf.ro calculations.
KFC is in the same situation, a restaurant selling some EUR 1.1 million per year, against the EUR 600,000 the world average.
According to the publication, such economic results are explained by the recent financial crisis that affected Romanians’ revenues. Fast food restaurants have gained momentum because they are cheaper than the usual restaurants, with menus of some RON 10-15, below the average lunch in a restaurant.

Just one week ago, McDonald’s unveiled its expansion plans in Romania, after recent major shareholder shift when franchisee in Malta, Premier Capital took over the local operations.

For this year, US giant company will invest RON 25 million on the local market, almost double the investment of last year, and will open 7 McCafe units and 1or 2 restaurants.

“Five restaurants will be refurbished. We look at Brasov, Timisoara, most likely outside Bucharest,” Daniel Boaje, general manager McDonald’s Romania, announced in a press conference on Tuesday.

Last year, McDonald’s Romania had a turnover of EUR 110 million. The restaurants with the highest sales are those in Bucharest (Piata Unirii and Dristor), but also in Constanta, Brasov, Craiova, Timisoara and Cluj.

Maltese Premier Capital will pay USD 65.33 million for McDonald’s Romania, including all 67 McDonald’s restaurants, 19 McCafe units and local McDonald’s franchise.
