PayU: Romania posted the largest growth in Europe in e-commerce

The e-commerce market is constantly growing, Romania registering the highest growth rate at European level, according to PayU, a press release informs.

“Last year, PayU estimates show that the entire e-commerce market amounted to EUR 2.8 billion, and the EUR 3 billion threshold will be exceeded in 2018”, says Marius Costin, Country Manager of PayU Romania.

According to him, in order to maintain the upward trend of business growth in 2018 too, Romanian traders should take into account a series of global trends, to be prepared for legislative change and adapt their offers to the customers that are becoming more and more rigorous.

As regards the cross-border trade, the E-shopper barometer 2017 shows that 55 percent of Romanians who buy online have already purchased products from sites in other countries due to tempting offers or brands that they do not find locally.

At the same time, the online stores in Romania are attractive to foreign customers, airline tickets, telecom and marketplaces being the most purchased products and services on local platforms with cards issued abroad.

Latest statistics show that about 70 percent of site visits are made from mobile to the detriment of the desktop, up 20 percent from 2016, PayU shows quoting GPeC 2017 e-commerce market report. Moreover, in 2017, 4 out of 10 urban internet users made online shopping at least monthly.
