German MEP, Reinhard Bütikofer: A law should not be tailor-made to solve Dragnea’s sentence

German MEP Reinhard Bütikofer, leader of the Greens group, said on Monday, while on a visit to Romania, that some of the provisions of the judicial reform package “seem to be tailor-made” to retroactively cancel the sentence of PSD leader Liviu Dragnea.

“When I see the judicial reform, which the European Union supports, this is an important step. But when I see that this judicial reform is used for other reasons, I am concerned. I see two such reasons, one is to reduce the independence of the judiciary and it is never a good thing in democracy, and two, some of the provisions in the reform package seem to be tailor-made to create retroactively a way to release people who have been sentenced. A law that is tailored to ensure that Mr. Dragnea’s sentence is gone, that’s not how democratic systems work,” MEP Reinhard Bütikofer said on Monday, hotnews.ro informs.

Bütikofer explained that he has come to Romania to prepare a Green Group’s request to organize, at the European Parliament, in October, a debate on the rule of law in Romania in the context of the latest proposals to amend the laws of justice and the criminal codes.

“The prime minister says that ‘I lead the country as Mr. Dragnea says.’ This is not a normal way to lead a country. The Prime Minister has to answer in front of the people, not to the party. I have not met him (Liviu Dragnea – our note) but I would not be afraid to tell him what I have said here,” the German MEP said.

“I lead the country as Mr. Dragnea says”. Well she knows she is a puppet.
