PNL notifies the Constitutional Court on the law on organization of referendum

The Liberal Senators have notified on Friday the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) regarding the unconstitutionality of amending and completing Law no. 3/2000 on the organization and conducting of a referendum.

“The notification is justified by the violation of an earlier CCR decision (no. 612/2017) on the same law, in the context of the review of the above mentioned law, which upholds the PNL remarks on unconstitutionality,”  the objection of unconstitutionality reads.

“We ask the Court to state (…) that the Law amending and supplementing Law No. 3/2000 on the organization and conducting of the referendum, adopted in the re-examination procedure, is unconstitutional due to the non-observance by the Romanian Parliament of the constitutional obligation provided by art. 147 paragraph (2) of the Romanian Constitution, republished,” the Liberals conclude.
