PSD reacts to President’s criticism, points to GDP growth

PSD has reacted on Wednesday to President Klaus Iohannis’ criticisms that Romania is heading to a wrong direction and the refusal of the ministers proposed, arguing that “the real news of the day is that Romania has achieved economic growth three times higher than the European Union average.”

“Iohannis cannot make the difference between the success of Romanians and his electoral interest. Even on the day that the INS officially announces that Romania has the second highest economic growth in Europe, of 5%, Iohannis claims that the PSD governance has done nothing good,” a press release reads.

The Social-Democrats argue that “the real news of the day is that Romania has managed to achieve three times the average economic growth of the European Union,” which shows “the PSD’s good governance”, mentioning that the current power has increased pensions and wages.

Moreover, the Social-Democratic Party claims that a real issue that should have been submitted to the referendum is the increase the minimum wage and not corruption.

“President Iohannis forgets or ignores the fact that the PSD has publicly expressed its support for the referendum. Falsely, he tries to induce the idea that there are two kinds of Romanians: some who would support and some who would not support the anti-corruption fight. In fact, all Romanians agree with the anti-corruption fight, as long as fundamental human rights are observed,” PSD says.

Regarding the rejection of the ministers’ proposals by the head of state and of the government reshuffle, PSD claims that “social-democrat ministers who run in the elections for European Parliament have behaved honestly towards the citizens and have avoided mingling the Government activities with election campaign actions. Instead of criticizing the PSD for this, Iohannis should not have used the presidential office to create an electoral advantage for PNL.”

President Klaus Iohannis said on Wednesday, during a press statement, he has sent to PSD the written refusal of the Government reshuffle, a proposal filed before Easter: Eugen Nicolicea, Oana Florea and Liviu Brailoiu. The three were the proposals submitted by Premier Viorica Dancila for the positions of Justice Minister, Minister for European Funds and Minister for Romanians Everywhere.

The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 5% in Q1 this year as compared with the same period last year, and by 1.3% against the previous quarter, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) informs on Wednesday. As seasonally adjusted series, in the first three months of this year, the GDP advanced by 5.1%

PM Dancila complains President Iohannis continues to ignore her

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila has complained on Wednesday that President Klaus Iohannis continues to ignore her. Dancila said she tried to find answers on Monday and Tuesday, but the head of state did not reply. She wanted to find out why the proposals for ministers have been rejected, digi24.ro informs.

Viorica Dancila refused to accept the option suggested by PSD leader Liviu Dragnea to avoid the President’s decision, by Government restructuring instead of reshuffling.
