Weightlifting, European Championship: Two gold medals for Dumitru Captari, silver and bronze for Razvan Martin

Romanian weightlifter Dumitru Captari won on Wednesday two gold medals and one silver medal in the men’s 77-kg category of the European Senior Weightlifting Championships in Split, Croatia, while Razvan Martin won a silver and two bronzes.

Competing in Group B, Captari won the snatch silver for a lifting 160 kg, as he was defeated by Albanian Daniel Godelli, who managed a 161-kg lift. Martin got the bronze for lifting 158kg.

Captari won easily the clean and jerk gold, for a 200-kg lift, while the silver went to Albanian Erkand Qerimaj (193 kg), and Martin took the bronze after failing to clean and jerk 194 kg on last attempt.

Captari was first also at total, for 348 kg. He was followed by Razvan Martin (348 kg) and Qerimaj (also 348 but a higher body mass — 76.85 kg to Martin’s 76.75 kg), Agerpres informs.

Romania’s medal tally in Split has thus risen to 17: six golds, four silvers and seven bronzes. In the women’s 48-kg category, Monica Csengeri won one gold medal (snatch) and two silvers (clean and jerk, total), while Elena Andries got two bronzes (snatch, total). Ilie Constantin Ciotoiu won two bronze medals — clear and jerk, total — in the men’s 56-kg category. Madalina Molie won the total bronze in the women’s 58-kg category and Loredana Toma won three gold medals in the women’s 63-kg category. In the men’s 77-kg category, Dumitru Captari won two golds (clean and jerk, total) and one silver (snatch), while Razvan Martin got one silver (total) and two bronzes (snatch, clean and jerk).
