“Cartel Alfa” National Trade Union Federation on Monday filed a criminal complaint against de persons who signed the ordinance on the rise of dignitaries’ wages, arguing they breached the provisions of the Salary Law. The trade union also sent MPs on open letter asking them to veto the ordinance’s adoption.

The trade unionists say the ordinance rising the salaries for 48 official positions represents “a total contempt against the Romanians who are living at subsistence level, against all public servants working in the budgetary system.”

The trade unionists think this rising has no justified ground and moreover, the decision would also break the legal provisions.

“Public justification made by various dignitaries doesn’t have legal grounds for this decision. They claim the would reduce and counteract corruption, as if a EUR 4,000 allowance compared to EUR 2,000 at present would be enough to stop the dignitaries’ temptations, who otherwise decide on some sums of tens or hundreds of millions of Euro. We remind that a dignitary position is no forced work, the dignitaries have run for these positions knowing the legal constraints. They can resign from these offices if they seem burdensome to them and they can return to their previous comfort anytime they want,” reads the letter sent to the lawmakers.

The trade unionists also pointed out that public servants, doctors or even teachers are not properly remunerated, although their professional responsibilities are at least as big as the ones of the dignitaries, and work conditions in the public system are seldom humiliating and sometimes dangerous.

For now, the Government postponed a decision on the ordinance by next week.
