Senators granted Romanians a new day off during the year. The Senate on Tuesday passed 98 votes to one a draft law stipulating that June 1, the International Child Day should be declared legal holiday, therefore a day off.

The draft, endorsed by 39 senators and 48 deputies from all political parties, amended the Labour Code by adding a new day off for the Romanian employees, June 1.

The other days off are: January 1 and January 2 after the New Year’s Eve, the first and second days on Easter, May 1 (Labour Day), first and second day on Pentecost, August 15 (the Assumption), November 30 (St. Andrew, Romania’s spiritual patron), December 1 (Romania’s national day), the first and second Christmas days.

However the Chamber of Deputies is the decision making body on this law.

A week ago, the deputies passed another day off, January 24 celebrating the union of the Romanian Principalities.
