Main concern for Romanians – scarcity of jobs. 58 pc believe 2015 will be a better year

Romanians’ greatest concern in 2014 has been the scarcity of jobs, however more than half believe things are going to the right direction and that 2015 will be a better year, a survey carried out by IRES on 2014 balance sheet reads.

More than half of the interviewees (52 percent) say things are going in the right direction, while 38 percent believe things are going in the wrong direction, 8 percent do not know and 2 percent did not answer. “Do you believe Romania is heading in the right direction or in a wrong direction?” the question was.

47 percent of Romanians say they are ‘not too satisfied’ with their standard of living, 31 percent are ‘rather satisfied’ while 3 percent are very satisfied.

The survey reads that 44 percent of the interviewees believe they’ll do better next year, 33 percent believe they’ll be the same and 17 percent believe they’ll do worse.

2014 is considered as better than the previous year by 31 percent, worse by 30 percent and 36 percent say it was the same. For 2015 some 58 percent believe it will be better, 28 percent believe it will be the same, while 9 percent expect it to be worse.

Romanians’ biggest concern in 2014 was the scarcity of jobs, 25 percent of the interviewees saying they are preoccupied by this issue. The political crisis and illness scare represent some 15 percent of concerns for Romanians, followed by price increases 13 percent, job insecurity 10 percent, cuts in revenues 7 percent, lack of perspective 6 percent, loneliness 3 percent, scarcity of money 2 percent and poor health 1 percent.

The survey was carried out during December 18-19 on a multi-layer probabilistic sample of 1,147 subjects over 18. Maxim error is of +/- 2.9 percent.
