Bitdefender relocates Box production from China to Romania

Romania-based security software company Bitdefender transferred the production of the second generation of Bitdefender Box from China to a factory in Satu Mare, hotnews.ro informs.

Bitdefender’s Box is an innovative security hub, a win-win for homes with lots of online devices, especially smart-home devices that wouldn’t otherwise be secured. Its unique hardware provides an extra layer of protection against the internet’s seamier side, and scans for vulnerabilities on the home network. In addition, the bundle includes virtual private network (VPN) service and Bitdefender’s antivirus software for all computers, smartphones and tablets.

“I dreamed about this! Why not do this in Romania? It is also a personal ambition to show that we can do high-value products here,” Florin Talpes, Bitdefender’s CEO&Founder said.

He pointed out that the equipment is fully designed by Bitdefender and that it is not a kit of components that are assembled under the company logo.

“Two years ago, when we started production of the first Bitdefender Box version, there were no conditions in Romania for production, but in the meantime they have radically changed. The costs are slightly higher in Romania than in China, because we are still talking about the European Union,” Talpes stated.

The new Bitdefender Box was first introduced in January this year at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas, USA.
