New green car sales, up by over 83 pc in the first four months of 2018

The sales of new eco-friendly cars increased by 83.02 percent in the first four months of 2018 compared to the same period in the previous year to 1,003 units, from 548 units in 2017, Automotive Manufacturers and Importers Association (APIA) data show.

Of this total, 238 were fully electric cars, equivalent to a fivefold increase (+ 417.4 percent) compared to the first four months of the previous year, and 765 hybrid units (+ 52.4 percent).

During January-April 2018, the share of new green cars in total domestic sales was 2.3 percent, while in the same period in 2017, the share was 1.7 percent.

In April, 342 electric and hybrid cars were sold, up by 27.13 percent, compared to the previous month, when 269 units were sold.

Volkswagen ranks first among the most traded 100 percent EV with 96 units, followed by smart (47), BMW (31), Mercedes Benz (19), Renault (14), Volvo (10), Audi and Mitsubishi (5 units), Porsche (4) and Kia (2).

Also, most hybrid cars sold in Romania during the period under review were recorded by Toyota (663 units), Kia (20) and Audi (16).
