“Ana, mon amour” directed by Romanian filmmaker Calin Peter Netzer was shortlisted for the official competition of the 67th edition of the Berlinale International Film Festival due in Berlin during February 9-19, 2017. The film is available in Romania as of March 3, shortly after its world premiere.

After winning the Golden Bear with his “Child’s Pose”, Calin Peter Netzer is back on screens with a new movie exploring the dynamics of the most important relationships in a human being’s life.

“Ana, mon amour” is the analysis of a love story, an atypical journey that is capturing the most tensioned and most delicate moments in a couple’s evolution.

The leading characters, Toma and Ana, know each during college, come closer in no time and embark on a love affair that soon becomes a fight against everybody. Due to some problems in her childhood, Ana has frequent panic attacks, while Toma assumes his role of unconditioned protector. Although he seems to hold control over their relation, few years later he ends up revolving around a woman whom he cannot understand, forcing his limits to save her.

According to the director, the film is not exploring the erosion of Toma’s relation with Ana, but is rather focusing on the inability of adequately building a relationship.

The leading actors are Mircea Postelnicu and Diana Cavallioti. Known for her parts in “Memories from the Golden age-2” and TV series “One step ahead” and “A mad week”, actress Diana Cavallioti is collaborating with Netzer for the first time.

“Ana, mon amour” is a co-production Augenschein Filmproduktion (DE) and Sophie Dulac Productions (FR) and is distributed in Romania by Freeman Entertainment.

Calin Peter Netzer’s first feature film, Maria (2003), won the Special Prize of the Jury at the Locarno International Film Festival, among other prizes at this and other film festivals.

His second feature film was Medal of Honor, 2009. His third one, Child’s Pose, 2013 won him the Golden Bear at the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival.

The film has been selected as the Romanian entry for the Oscars’ Best Foreign Language Film.
