Romanian Border Police is conducting thorough checks up at the border with Hungary to prevent illegal migration and potential threats to the national and international security, which made hundreds vehicles queuing to get out the country at Nadlac border crossing point in the night of Thursday to Friday.
Some drivers said that they waited even for three hours to enter Hungary and that their ID papers have been scanned after the vehicle check up.
On Friday morning, Arad Border Police sent a press release, informing that “during this period, the Romanian Border Police, in partnership with other institutions dealing with border control, is conducting thorough checks up on the persons and vehicle crossing the border, both when entering or leaving Romania, according to the national and international legislation.”
On the other hand, also on Friday, EU nations agreed to immediately tighten checks on all travellers, including European nationals, at the external borders of the passport-free Schengen area following the Paris attacks, European sources said.
Interior ministers from the 28-nation European Union also backed France’s call for a fundamental revision of the Schengen deal to allow the “systematic” controlling of EU citizens at borders, the sources said.
