Nicusor Constantinescu, sentenced to 6 years in prison

Former Chairman of the Constanta County Council Nicusor Constantinescu was sentenced on Monday to 6 years imprisonment by the Bucharest Court, in a file in which he is accused of obstructing checks of the Court of Auditors and did not respect the legal provisions concerning the extension of urban planning certificates and building permits for wind farms.

The court banned Nicuşor Constantinescu from exercising certain rights after serving the prison sentence, he has to pay EUR 3,000 damages to Marian Turbatu and EUR 4,000 and EUR 10,000 respectively to two companies involved in the construction of wind farms.

The judges also decided that Constantinescu remains in custody.

The decision is not final and can be appealed.

The Constanta County Council Chairman was sentenced in October 2015 to three years and a half in prison for abuse of office in a file regarding the under financing of the Regional Military Centre.
