The Government Decision which transposes into Romanian legislation the directive on the sulphur content of marine fuels, for which the European Commission proposed a fine and wants to refer Romania to the Court of Justice of the EU, is into inter-ministerial approval, the Ministry of Energy informs.

“The delays in transposition were caused by unsynchronized activities in administration between institutions, following the successive reorganization of some ministries during several years,” was the answer of the Romanian institution.

17 months after the deadline for transposition, Romania has not transposed EU rules on the sulphur content into its national legislation.

The Commission is proposing a daily fine of EUR 38,042.6, which would be paid from the date of the Court ruling until Romania fully transposes the obligations of the Directives.
