The US Department of Transportation has granted HiSky the Foreign Air Transport Operator’s Permit after successfully completing all verification and authorization stages. Thus, starting from this date, HiSky becomes the only airline flying from Romania that has the right to operate regular passenger flights from Europe to any destination in the United States of America. After obtaining the authorization, HiSky is preparing to launch the first direct flights overseas, departing from Romania, after more than 20 years.

The aircraft that gives the company the ability to operate flights over this distance, non-stop, is planned to land at Henri Coandă Airport in Bucharest on Monday, December 18. The aircraft, an Airbus A330, has been painted in the company’s colors at a maintenance base in Ireland and bears the registration YR-KID. This is the first wide-body aircraft to enter the HiSky fleet and the only one of this type that will be operated by a Romanian company. With a configuration in two service classes, business class and economy, it has an autonomy of up to 14 hours of non-stop flight, that is, it can cover, non-stop, distances of over 13,400 km, the company states in a press release.

“We are happy to be able to confirm that before the end of the year, we managed to fulfill all our goals and the promises we made to our passengers. HiSky is today the only Romanian company authorized to operate regular flights in the United States and the first to have this ability, to make direct flights to the most popular destinations around the globe. As we promised, we are preparing for the launch, soon, of the first routes to the USA, which we will operate with the A330, but until then, we have good news for Romanian tourists who choose holidays in Asia, during Christmas and New Year’s Eve. They will be the first passengers with whom we will travel with the new aircraft, on a direct flight, departing from Bucharest,” states Iulian Scorpan, CEO of HiSky.

HiSky is an airline based in Chisinau, Moldova, being additionally certified in Romania. The main bases of the airlines are Chisinau International Airport and Cluj International Airport.
