Social Democrat senator Iulian Iancu, president of the lower chamber’s industry committee filed a draft bill to amend the criminal code increasing the sentences in prison for forging and counterfeiting products, medicines or brands.
Iancu proposes substantial rise from 3 months -3 years to 1 up to 8 eight years in prison for making forged food or drinks, which are injurious to health or for exposing for sale or sale of such food and drinks.
Another major sentence rise is from 6 months-3 years in prison to 2-8 years for selling meat products originating from animals which avoided the vet check out if the meat products made somebody sick.
He also suggests a sentence rise from 1-5 years in prison up to one year and a half -7 years for infecting the water sources and networks.
Two up to 10 years in prison are proposed for forging products if the forgery injured the health, while sales of counterfeit, off medicines and food supplements could be punished by 5 to 15 years in jail.
Those who sell drugs and food supplements that don’t have the National Medicine Agencys’ go-ahead risk from 5 to 10 years in prison.
Iancu also proposes that forging brands should represent law-breaking and should be punished by 1 year and a half to 5 years behind bars.
