SRI leadership heard by the parliamentary special committee next week

The parliamentary committee for SRI control will hear the leadership of the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) next week on January 25 related to Florian Coldea case and the service’s budget, the committee chair Adrian Tutuianu said on Tuesday.

The SRI director, Eduard Hellvig, (photo) was invited for hearings, as well as the service’s deputy directors and the head of the internal inquiry committee and those who manage the budget issue.

“We had a discussion and we called on the SRI leadership to be present at the committee on January 25, at 11:00hrs with two topics. One is related to what is happening now in the public space- the Coldea case-and the second topic is related to the SRI’s budget on 2017. We agreed that the SRI director shall come with all documents concerning the two topics,” Tutuianu pointed out.

“The SRI committee has the attribute of checking if the service is legally functioning. The fact that Mr. Coldea is today in such a situation doesn’t annul the right of the committee to check and clear up some facts and if the legal provisions have been observed,” the lawmaker added.

On the other hand, the representative of the Liberal Party in the committee, Cezar Preda, said he doesn’t know what the committee can do by reviewing the Coldea and Ghita cases, considering there is already an ongoing internal investigation within SRI.
