Millions of Wild Snowdrops Spectacle in Romanian National Park

Grădiștea Muncelului-Cioclovina Natural Park in Sureanu Mountains, Hunedoara, is dubbed as one of the most beautiful place in Romania in spring, as it enchants tourists with the millions of wild snowdrops that offer an exquisite show. The National Directorate of Romsilva Forests, however, urges those who arrive in this area to enjoy the beauty of the place, to photograph, to look, but to be responsible with the delicate plants.

“Because we are proud of the beauty of the places we look after and we want to enjoy such images for many years to come, we ask all visitors to be responsible with these delicate plants”, writes the Romsilva National Forest Authority, in a message posted on Facebook.

According to Romsilva, the snowdrops, by their mode of reproduction, develop both through bulbs and seeds, and repeatedly breaking the flowers and removing the bulbs from the soil affects not only the plant itself, but also its ability to reproduce.

“Therefore, let’s be aware of the impact of our actions and admire the beauty of snowballs responsibly,” said the message posted on the social network.

“Let a photograph or just a long look remain our way of enjoying these wonderful flowers, without harming them and affecting their natural beauty, the environment and the landscape in which they are found,” Romsilva added.

Grădiștea Muncelului-Cioclovina Natural Park is one of the 22 national and natural parks managed by the National Forestry Authority – Romsilva and has an area of over 38,000 hectares, of which over 26,500 hectares are forests. The park is located in the west of the country, within Hunedoara County, in the area of the Șureanu Mountains.
