According to Western leaders, Ebola is the most serious health emergency of the past years.
Recent data shows that Ebola pandemic is becoming more and more visible also in Romania where over 20 persons who have returned from Africa are monitored by the Health Directorate’s doctors. Hence, in Brasov there are four such cases while other 18 are being monitored in other places by the medical authorities for 21 days, which is the maximum incubation period of the virus.
In case of any sign of disease, people will be isolated. The hospitals of infectious diseases have bought protection equipments and at Matei Bals Institute in Bucharest there have been arranged a special extent with a 15 beds capacity.
The 18 Romanians have recently returned from Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, the three countries where Ebola is raging.
Yet, Health Minister Nicolae Banicioiu gave assurances that Romania is ready to manage possible cases of Ebola, having been constituted a National Steering Committee, consisting of the Ministries of Health, Home Affairs, Defense, Foreign Affairs and Transportation. At the same time, the World Health Organization affirmed that an extensive outbreak of Ebola in the United States or in the Western world is “unlikely” given the developed health systems.
Romanian MD leaves country to fight Ebola in Africa
Tudor Ciuhodaru, a physician originating from Iasi, volunteered to go to Africa in order to treat people suffering from Ebola.
”I’m going to join the International Medical Corps through an organization of volunteers who told us that they need qualified medical staff with expertise in emergency and who know how to deal with difficult situations. A collective effort should be done for Ebola virus not to reach elsewhere. There always is a risk degree in the emergency medicine, I’m not afraid if there is a septic environment,” said the doctor.
US ask for visas’ jamming for citizens coming from virus affected countries
The president of the US Chamber of Representatives and other congressmen suggested the Obama administration to close the American territory for citizens coming from the three countries that are being at the moment most affected by the Ebola epidemic.
“A temporary ban on traveling to the United States from countries affected by the virus is a choice that the President (Barack Obama) should certainly take into account, as well as any other necessary step in the context of emergent doubts about the safety of our air transportation system,” stated in a release John Boehner, the president of the House of Representatives.
Nevertheless, Presidents Barack Obama and Francois Hollande, Chancellor Angela Merkel and Prime Ministers David Cameron and Matteo Renzi labeled the Ebola virus as “the worst health emergency of the past years”, stated a spokesman of the British Prime Minister.
To conclude with, Obama guaranteed on Wednesday that the US will answer in a “more aggressive manner” to the Ebola epidemic, aiming to avoid registering new cases on the US territory after a second nurse from Texas has been infected.
Meanwhile, risk of spread is rising in Europe. Four people with fever considered at risk for Ebola were being tested Thursday in Spain for the virus, including one who arrived on an Air France jet that was isolated at Madrid’s airport as a precaution, officials said, as quoted by ABC News.
