Serena Williams beat Simona Halep 6-3, 6-0 to win her third-successive title at the WTA Finals and fifth overall. Williams won 11 of the last 12 games in the match to join Martina Navratilova and Steffi Graf as the only players to have won five titles in the season-ending championships.

Halep easily beat Williams just four days earlier during the group stage of the tournament, but Williams turned that around with an aggressive game plan that unsettled the Romanian player.

After the game ended, Halep said she had been experienced a wonderful week in Singapore, commenting that Serena Williams “is the best”. “Thank you all for supporting me. It has been a wonderful week. Congratulations, Serena! You are the best; congratulations you closed again the tennis season as the world No.1. It was a dream to be here,” Halep said.

Despite Sunday’s defeat, Simona Halep’ s record cannot be overlooked. She is the first Romanian tennis player who reaches WTA Finals title match. After this title match she won USD 971,000 and 840 WTA points, thus becoming the world No.3.
