Transport Minister Felix Stroe has dismissed Metrorex Director General Marin Aldea and Director for Operations Liviu Daniel Dinu Friday morning, ministry representatives have informed.

According to them, the minister also ordered a severe investigation on the subway.

The decision was made following the blocking of the subway traffic on the Izvor-Politehnica-Grozăveşti section Friday morning, due to a gully for infiltration leakage which fell from the ceiling and produced a short circuit.

And yet… it seems the Metrorex Director cannot be dismissed by the Transport Minister, as the media inform.

The Metrorex Director General can be dismissed by the Board of Directors only, according to the corporate governance regulation for public enterprises, the updated statute of Metrorex reads.

“The Board of Directors may revoke the Director General,” the updated statute of Metrorex reads, according to Law no. 31/1990 on societies, republished and updated, and to GEO no. 109/2011 on Corporate Governance of Public Enterprises. “The Board of Directors appoints the Director General on the recommendation of the nomination and remuneration committee and signs the contract of appointment with the Director General,” the statute states.

The Board of Directors meets at least every three months and whenever necessary.

During the subway incident Wednesday morning, Minister Stroe explained his decision to dismiss the management.

“The reason is the lack of discipline that for many years persists at Metrorex. I refer to the discipline of work, I refer to the discipline that has to characterize the railways. The problem is that this should not have happened, there are plans for quarterly, half-yearly and yearly maintenance works. (…) My motto, the principle by which I have guided all my life is zero tolerance for such things,” Felix Stroe has told Antena3 TV.

He highlighted the subway has many problems and needs a responsible involvement of the management. Minister Stroe added he hasn’t yet informed the two directors about the dismissal decision and that, for the moment, the management is taken over by the legal substitutes.

The subway traffic resumed at 8.00h.
