The first death due to the Indian strain of the coronavirus reported in Romania

The first death due to the Indian strain of the coronavirus (Delta strain) has been reported in Romania, according to the National Institute of Public Health. 44 infections with the Delta strain have been confirmed in our country so far. The Delta strain is the most contagious coronavirus version detected so far.

2,224 sequencing have been reported by June 20, with 1,628 SARS-CoV-2 concerning strains confirmed:

  • Alpha (the UK strain) – 1,553
  • Beta (South African)- 11
  • Gamma (Brazilian) – 20
  • Delta (Indian) – 44

The confirmation share SARS-CoV-2 variants of concerns mounts to 73% by June 20.

31 deaths due to these variants of concern have been confirmed in Romania by the same date:

  • Alpha – 27
  • Gamma – 3
  • Delta – 1
