Charleston: Caroline Garcia has racist outburst against Romanian tennis player Irina Begu

Romanian tennis player Irina Camelia Begu (photo), 34th WTA, defeated on Monday French player Carolina Garcia (44th WTA) 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (3) to qualify to the second round of the WTA Premier tournament in Charleston, South Carolina.

The match lasted two hours and 46 minutes, but one of the highlights was Garcia’s outburst in the third set.

At the score of 5-5, the 22 year old French made a racist comment against Irina Begu, saying “look, I’m going to lose against this gypsy shit”, according to Portuguese media quoted by gsp.ro.

The same source reads that social networks are filled with tough reactions to Garcia’s outburst.

Caroline Garcia is a French tennis player born in Saint-Germain on October 16, 1993. She turned professional in 2011. Garcia has won one singles (Bogota – 2014) and two doubles titles on the WTA tour, as well as one singles and four doubles titles on the ITF tour in her career. On March 23, 2015, she reached her best singles ranking of world number 25. On August 17, 2015, she peaked at world number 13 in the doubles rankings. She has earned USD 2.2 million.
