After cutting VAT on food, Romanians have purchased … more food with most of the extra money obtained.

The remaining amount was directed to non-food items, other expenses or savings, according to GfK research company.

According to GfK, of the total amount that Romanians could save as a result of lower prices, 76 percent was reintroduced in consumer shopping circuit. More precisely, more than half of this amount was directed to food and non alcoholic beverages.

17 percent went to the non-food products: personal care and home care products.

The difference of amount stayed in the Romanians’ pocket for other expenses or for savings.

As regards the personal care products, GfK study notes a tend to buy products from an upper price segment. Meanwhile, this phenomenon has diminished, the money going mostly to food goods.
