Unemployment rate – 6.6 pc in May

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was of 6.6% in 2016, up by 0.2 percentage points against the previous month (6.4%) the National Statistics Institute (INS) announced on Friday.

According to the source, the number of unemployed (aged 15-74 years), estimated for May was of 581,000 people, up against April (573,000 people), down as compared to the same month of the previous year (622,000).

For adults (25-74 years old) the unemployment rate was estimated at 5.5% for May (6.3% for men and 4.5% in women). The number of unemployed aged 25-74 years represented 78.3% of the total number of unemployed.

By gender, men’s unemployment rate exceeded by 1.7 percentage points the women’s rate (7.3% for men and 5.6% for women).
