Update: CSAT approves higher number of military for missions abroad, approach coming NATO summit, Rosia Montana issue

The Supreme defence Council (CSAT) has approved in the sitting on Wednesday, at Cotroceni Palace, the number of military to take part to operations abroad in 2019.

“As compared to 2018, the number of Romanian Army military will be by 305 higher, up by 11.8%. Thereby, the Romanian Army will participate with 2,098 military and civilians in missions and operations abroad, whereas the Interior Ministry will participate with 932 military and policemen,” a Presidency release informs.

The CSAT sitting was led by President Klaus Iohannis and was attended by PM Viorica Dancila, Defence Minister Mihai Fifor, Interior Minister Carmen Dan, Foreign Minister Teodor Melescanu and Finance Minister Eugen Teodorovici.

Another topic on the agenda was the analysis and approval of Romania’s objectives for the NATO summit in Brussels during July 11-12, the Presidency also informs.

The CSAT has also approached the topic of Rosia Montana locality, (The mining cultural landscape in Rosia Montana) in regard to being included in the UNESCO heritage list and it has been decided that the issue will be managed by the Government.

Early in June, the Viorica Dancila cabinet has put on hold the procedure to include Rosia Montana locality in the UNESCO heritage list. The application to put the file on hold was made by the Ministry of Culture and sent to the Romanian Ambassador to UNESCO through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Adrian Cioroianu said at the time.
