Heatwave lingering in Romania

The Capital city and eight other counties in the south of the country are under a Code Orange heatwave warning on Wednesday, with the maximum temperature expected to reach 39 degrees, according to the National Meteorological Administration. Also, a Yellow Code for heatwave and thermal discomfort will affect several areas of the country

In the counties of Dolj, Olt, Teleorman, Giurgiu, Călăraşi, Ialomiţa, Brăila, Ilfov and the municipality of Bucharest, the thermal discomfort will be accentuated, and the temperature-humidity index (ITU) will be above the critical threshold of 80 units.

At the same time, a yellow Code of heatwave and thermal discomfort will affect, throughout Wednesday, areas of Banat, Crişana, southern Transylvania, Oltenia, Muntenia, Dobrogea and the southern half of Moldova. Thermal discomfort will be high, and the temperature-humidity index (ITU) will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units. The maximum temperatures will generally be between 33 and 37 degrees, and the minimums will be between 17 and 23 degrees.

The heat wave will continue on Thursday in the west, southwest and south of the territory, where thermal discomfort will be high, and the temperature-humidity index (ITU) will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units. Meteorologists note that the heat wave will intensify again towards the end of the week.

Yellow code alert for storms in half the country

On the other hand, a Code Yellow alert for storms was issued for half of Romania. The warning targets areas in Maramures, Moldova, most part of Crisana and Transylvania, northeastern Muntenia and northern Dobrogea.

The weather will get unstable there, with wind gusts of 55…70kmph, storms, thunderstorms, torrential rains and hail.
