Cyclists are among the most vulnerable road users due to their direct exposure to environmental factors, lack of impact protection, and reduced stability of their vehicles. All of these factors contribute to the increased severity of potential accidents.

Unfortunately, last year witnessed over 600 such accidents resulting in the loss of 163 lives, severe injuries to 441 individuals, and minor injuries to 22 others, according to data from the Romanian Police.

Additionally, in 2022, there were over 3,500 minor accidents involving cyclists, with or without the culpability of other vehicle drivers, leading to minor injuries for 3,586 individuals.

These are not just statistics – they represent lives lost, families torn apart, and futures cut short far too soon. Therefore, it is even more important to be vigilant in traffic and to consider adequate protection solutions, such as insurance policies,” said Alexandru CIUNCAN, President & CEO of UNSAR.

If there is a cost associated with urban mobility, it certainly should not be paid with human lives. Thus, because we desire a world without road accidents and especially a country without road casualties, UNSAR (National Union of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies) has founded the Coalition for Road Safety. On this occasion, we extend an invitation to all institutions and organizations that aspire to a safer future to join this collective effort.

“The coalition is a nationwide project that brings together various organizations, companies, and authorities with one goal: to increase road safety levels in Romania and reduce the number of traffic accident victims,” said Claudiu Sofron, Auto Insurance Specialist at UNSAR.
