Surgeries initially scheduled in five hospitals in the country had been postponed on Thursday due to the diluted disinfectants scandal, the Health Ministry announced. Among them there is “Marius Nasta” Institute for Lung Diseases in Bucharest, which was on the list of 50 hospitals where the biocide substances were confirmed to have been diluted.

The pneumology hospital says it will buy other disinfectants, while considering suing the Hexi Pharma supplier.

Doctor Irina Strâmbu, research director of the Institute, says that only emergency cases will undergo surgery.

We postponed the riskier surgeries. We have performed only small interventions. We took this decision after the Government found problems at an iodine product, so, we had no certainty that the product was OK. The Hexi Pharma products that we have will be replaced with new acquisitions. We have other suppliers,” doctor Strâmbu told Digi 24.

The Pediatrics Hospital in Galati, the County Hospital in Craiova, Dolj, the County Hospital in Olt and the County Hospital in Teleorman are also performing only emergency surgeries due to the disinfectants affair.

Meanwhile, 18 new more inaccurate samples were tracked down on the Hexi Pharma disinfectant products used in several hospitals in Mures, Calarasi and Brasov.

For instance, 11 samples on Hexi Pharma diluted biocide substances were discovered in Mures county. An ethanol substance had 42 % concentration on the product’s tag, but in fact tha lab tests proved to be only 0.01%, so 4,200 times lower. Five lots of Hexio A product had this huge concentration issue, while in other two lots the propanol substance was diluted 2,800 times.

The first official results regarding the tests on the disinfectants supplied by Hexi Pharma across Romanian hospitals show that the substances have been indeed diluted up to ten times or even more. The government representatives announced in a press conference on Wednesday that all analyzed samples proved to be inaccurate and that the Executive considers suing the Hexi Pharma company.

The 14 disinfectant substances produced by Hexi Pharma were sampled from four hospitals in Bucharest, Floreasca Hospital. Universitar Hospital, “C.I. Parhon” Endocrinology Hospital and “Marius Nasta” Lung Institute. One of the samples showing the disinfectant has been diluted 2,500 times came from the Universitar Hospital.

Moreover, 14 employees of Hexi Pharma company were heard at the Bucharest Police HQs on Thursday in the diluted biocide substances case. They are employed in the production line department, with police officers asking them about how the disinfectants had been produced in the company?
