Moldovan FM appointed interim premier

President of the Republic of Moldova Nicolae Timofti on Monday appointed Foreign Minister Natalia Gherman as interim premier.
She expressed hope her term as premier would be a very short one, while assuring she would carry on the previous governments’ policies, with the EU accession and citizens’ safety as top priorities.
President Timofti convened a meeting with the members of the interim government also on Monday, urging them to efficiently manage the state affairs and implement all social projects.
Timofti said he would summon the parliamentary groups after the runoff of local elections due on June 28 in order to discuss a potential candidature of a new premier.
Ten days ago, Moldovan PM Chiril Gaburici resigned amidst forged diplomas scandal.
The scandal around Gaburici’s education credentials broke out in April, when a Moldovan media investigation alleged that the prime minister had not actually finished his higher education and that his diploma was a fake. Following the media reports, members of parliament from the Liberal Party sent a request to security organs and the Ministry of Education to clarify the situation surrounding Gaburici’s diploma.
