IKEA launches MARKERAD limited edition collection in Romania this Saturday

MARKERAD, the new limited edition collection made by IKEA together with international designer Virgil Abloh will be launched in Romania on November 2nd 2019 and will be available online starting with November 4th.

IKEA Romania announced though that, given the interest shown for the collection both by journalists and the public, every purchase in the stores in Bucharest will be limited to 2 MARKERAD items for each person, for the first 2 days, November 2nd and 3rd. Starting with November 4th, the selling process will continue in the regular manner. The prices start from 29.90 lei for the cushion cover and reach up to 1199 lei for the MARKERAD table made of natural wood.

While known to most as the founder of fashion brand Off-White, Virgil Abloh is also an architecture grad, a DJ, a producer, and Men’s Artistic Director at Louis Vuitton since March 2018.

“MARKERAD it’s about elevating the anonymous, everyday icons that we use without noticing. When we put a doorstop on one of the legs of an ordinary chair we create something unexpected – an interruption”, declared Virgil Abloh.

The limited collection comprises first home essential pieces of furniture and decorations. It’s not just a collection of must-have pieces to sit, sleep, work, and store stuff. Functionality, versatility and design are the best words to describe this collection.

The collection includes clocks (“TEMPORARY”), shopping bags (“SCULPTURE”), and verdant, turf-like rugs (“WET GRASS”). Additional pieces include Windsor chairs finished with door stop legs, glass door cabinets with red, nail-shaped pulls, even LED-lit Mona Lisa wall art, and an oversized rug designed to look like an IKEA receipt, which, according to Abloh, “can just as easily be on a floor or hung on a wall—in both scenarios, the rug highlights the entire story which IKEA embodies.”
