Armistice Day has been marked on 11 November every year since 1919 – a year after the Allied forces signed an agreement with the Germans that would end WW1 on this day, 1918, at 11:00 in the morning.

The final ceramic poppy has been laid at the Tower of London memorial art installation as ceremonies took place in the UK and abroad on Armistice Day. A two-minute silence honouring those killed in conflicts since the start of WW1 took place at 11:00 GMT. In London, remembrance ceremonies took place at Westminster Abbey, the Cenotaph and Trafalgar Square.

French President Francois Hollande laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, under the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.

German and French ambassadors to Romania, Werner Lauk and Francois Saint-Paul laid wreaths in Bucharest on Tuesday, attending a ceremony marking the soldiers killed in the WWI and buried in Romania but also marking all soldiers who sacrificed for France. The ceremony took place on the French lot at Bellu military cemetery.
